#FinEd is a new ambitious campaign which will aim to embed financial education within schools. Financial education is essential to help manage personal finances and today there is a shortcoming where students are not sufficiently taught how to prepare to manage finances.
The aim of this campaign is to bridge this gap to ensure that future generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed financial decisions.
This campaign comes at a time when the need for financial literacy in the UK is more pressing than ever. According to recent studies, many young people are ill-prepared for the financial challenges of adulthood, including managing debt, saving for the future, and understanding the basics of investing.
By prioritising financial education in schools, I believe that young people will be better equipped to navigate their financial futures with confidence.
But simply having an end goal is not enough, and to achieve this momentous change in education I will be completing three actions:
Firstly, I will be hosting a high-profile event at the House of Commons to raise awareness and engage with MPs, policymakers, educators, and financial experts on the importance of financial education in schools. The event will bring together stakeholders from across sectors to discuss the steps necessary to integrate financial literacy into the curriculum.
Secondly, I will collaborate with the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Financial Education for Young People will be pivotal to ensure the campaign’s message reaches key decision-makers. And, throughout this collaboration, I will campaign to build momentum and generate cross-party support for financial education reforms.
Finally, a critical step in the campaign is the 10-Minute Rule Bill which I will introduce in the House of Commons in January. This bill will propose the formal inclusion of financial education within the national curriculum, ensuring that future generations of students have the tools they need to manage their finances effectively.
Help me and support #FinEd to enable the next generations onto a brighter future!
