At a meeting of Leicestershire County Council's Cabinet on Tuesday 19th December Peter called on Labour-controlled Charnwood Borough Council to finalise a viable and sustainable 'Local Plan' for the borough.
'Local Plans', which are the responsibility of Local Planning Authorities (in this case Charnwood Borough), are designed to provide a blueprint for future housing allocations and infrastructure need.
Speaking at Cabinet Peter said
Without a viable Local Plan for the borough villages like Rothley, Birstall and Anstey will continue to come under pressure from speculative developers to build yet more housing without the necessary infrastructure to support this growth. You may well end up with new housing estates, but residents will be stuck in gridlocked roads; because of the lack of a viable infrastructure plan
It is vital for the residents of Charnwood Borough, and constituents here in Mid Leicestershire, that a viable Local Plan is finalised by the Labour-Green Coalition to ensure that our rural communities are protected.
